Palm oil built Cefaan Farms, but it isn’t the whole story anymore. A few years ago we added a piggery division alongside our plantation, and it has grown into a meaningful second line of business — one built on the same standards of care we apply to our palm oil operations.
The Breeds We Raise
We keep a small number of imported breeds, chosen for how well they perform in our climate. Large White pigs are our most prolific breed, known for fast growth and reliable reproduction. Our Duroc pigs are prized for meat quality and marbling, while our Hampshire Cross herd is hardy and efficient, adapting well to Nigerian conditions with strong feed conversion.
How We Manage the Piggery
Our piggery runs on the same principle as our plantation — a clean, well-managed environment produces better results than cutting corners. That means regular veterinary care, controlled feeding, and housing designed to keep the herd healthy through Nigeria’s wet and dry seasons alike.
Why Piggery Complements Our Palm Oil Business
The two divisions actually feed into each other. Our Palm Kernel Cake, a by-product of kernel oil processing, is a natural protein source we can use in feed formulation, and the piggery gives us a second income stream that doesn’t depend on the same harvest cycles as our palm plantation. It’s part of a broader push to diversify and build steadier food security for the communities around our farm.
